What is a straight tube bong?

A straight tube bong refers to any bong that is straight from the top of the base to the tip. They are different to beaker bongs, which have a much wider base and a narrower neck. Straight bongs are more traditional and what most people would expect to see in a ‘classic’ bong.

They consist of a straight, narrow tube, an ever-so-slightly wider base, a bowl on the side to place your dry herbs, and a carburetor, or carb hole, which you put your finger on when taking a hit. They are ideal for small and sharp hits, and are available in many different styles and materials.

Advantages of straight tube bongs

• Due to the longer necks in straight tube bongs, they are more likely to have ice catchers or percolators than beaker base bongs, and more likely to have more of them too. These act like extra filtration systems, giving you a smoother and cleaner hit, while placing ice cubes on the ice catcher helps to cool down the smoke too.
• Many bong owners claim they’re easier to use than beaker base bongs, as there is less space inside the bong and water chamber for the smoke to travel through, giving more consistent hits.
• Straight glass bongs often have removable bowls and downstems, which makes cleaning each part of your bong that much easier.

Disadvantages of straight tube bongs

• Because of their straight, tubular design, they are more unstable than beaker bongs when placed on a flat surface. If you have a straight glass bong, this makes it more likely to fall and break, leaving dirty bong water and glass on your floor, as well as a bill for your next bong.
• Some straight bongs are extremely tall, which makes taking a desirable hit that bit harder, especially for beginners.
